Pilates will re-establish good patterns of movement, tone and balance the body while preventing negative side effects that come through many exercise regimes. When you participate in a private Pilates training program, that is designed especially for you, you'll start to see these results faster.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Ultimate Cross-Training, Pilates helps to strengthen athletes while keeping them injury free.  Pilates training is a key form of exercise practiced by professional athletes of sports like Football, Golf, Tennis, Swimming, Horseback Riding and Triathlons.  A consistent practice of Pilates will help rehabilitation of injuries, prevent future sport and other injuries, improve performance, and maintain longevity in the sports that you love.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A certified instructor has a trained eye; focusing solely on your body's individual needs.  An instructor is able to notice subtle, inefficient movement patterns then can give you specific instructions to make the exercises more effective for you.  Private Pilates sessions, even taken irregularly along with Group Mat sessions, can serve as "touchups" helping you to continue to get the most out of your Pilates training program.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Private sessions scheduling is generally more flexible, with times available from 5am-9pm.  With Personal sessions you are more likely to stay on track with your fitness program simply because you know that your instructor is expecting you, where as with a group class you may feel more inclined to skip because "no one will notice."  If you will only taking private sessions it is best to plan on scheduling 1-3 times per week depending on your needs, time and financial situation.  At the least, it is recommended that you begin your Pilates training with a few weeks of private sessions, before moving into group classes, to ensure a solid fundamental base and understanding of how Pilates works.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Types of Muscle Contractions&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There are 3 main types of skeletal muscle contractions: concentric, eccentric, and isometric.&lt;br /&gt;Concentric contractions:  This type is what people generally think of as a muscle contraction.  The muscle shortens as it contracts (bicep curl).&lt;br /&gt;Eccentric contractions:  This occurs when the muscle fibers lengthen as they contract (controlled lowering of an object).&lt;br /&gt;Isometric contractions:  The muscle length stays the same when contracted (holding a weight out at arms length)&lt;br /&gt;Total muscle strength is increase, and injury levels decreased when all forms of contraction are used in a fitness regime.  &lt;/span&gt;&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style=";font-family:Georgia;font-size:100%;"  &gt;&lt;span style=""&gt;  &lt;/span&gt;After the war, Joe returned to &lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;Germany&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt;.&lt;span style=""&gt;  &lt;/span&gt;He was hired as a trainer for the Hamburg Military Police.&lt;span style=""&gt;  &lt;/span&gt;Many of important innovators worked with Joseph during this time, and his fame began to grow.&lt;span style=""&gt;  &lt;/span&gt;By 1925, he was asked by the German government to train the new German Army, realizing the changing atmosphere of &lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;Germany&lt;/st1:country-region&gt;, Joseph fled to &lt;st1:country-region st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;America&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt;.&lt;span style=""&gt;  &lt;/span&gt;&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style=";font-family:Georgia;font-size:100%;"  &gt;&lt;span style=""&gt;  &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style=";font-family:Georgia;font-size:100%;"  &gt;On the ship to America Joseph met Clara, who he married.&lt;span style=""&gt;  &lt;/span&gt;They opened a studio in &lt;st1:city st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;New York City&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:city&gt; in 1926.&lt;span style=""&gt;  &lt;/span&gt;The studio shared a building with ma&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style=";font-family:Georgia;font-size:100%;"  &gt;ny &lt;st1:state st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;New York&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:state&gt; dance organizations.&lt;span style=""&gt;  &lt;/span&gt;Dancers began to discover the benefits of Pilates training techniques for both fitness and &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style=";font-family:Georgia;font-size:100%;"  &gt;rehabilitation.&lt;span style=""&gt;  &lt;/span&gt;Joseph fame also drew many of the&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style=";font-family:Georgia;font-size:100%;"  &gt; city’s richest and most famous people. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;/span&gt;He taught in his studio through the l&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style=";font-family:Georgia;font-size:100%;"  &gt;ate 19&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style=";font-family:Georgia;font-size:100%;"  &gt;60’s.&lt;span style=""&gt;  &lt;/span&gt;In 1966, a fire broke out in the building, &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style=";font-family:Georgia;font-size:100%;"  &gt;when Joseph went back to inspect his storage room for damage, the floor broke out from underneath him.&lt;span style=""&gt;  &lt;/span&gt;Joe fell, but was able to catch him&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style=";font-family:Georgia;font-size:100%;"  &gt;self on a floor beam and pull himself out of danger; he was near&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style=";font-family:Georgia;font-size:100%;"  &gt;ly 86 at the time.&lt;span style=""&gt;  &lt;/span&gt;Joe maintained his health and strength until the end of his life.&lt;span style=""&gt;  &lt;/span&gt;Unfortunately, he died the next year at age 87 possibly caused from complications due to smoke inhalation during the fire.&lt;span style=""&gt;   &lt;/span&gt;&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style=";font-family:Georgia;font-size:10pt;"  &gt;&lt;span style="font-size:100%;"&gt;  &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:100%;"&gt;Joe’s wife Clara continued to run the studio after his death.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:100%;"&gt;  &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:100%;"&gt;In 1971, Clara turned the s&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style=";font-family:Georgia;font-size:10pt;"  &gt;&lt;span style="font-size:100%;"&gt;tudio over to a longtime student, Romana Kryzanowska.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:100%;"&gt; This is quite possibly &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;the best deal&lt;/span&gt; you can get for Pilates Mat Classes.  It will be held Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 6am-7am, starting the 20th of April and going through July, at BYU-Idaho. Pilates Mats have more padding than a traditional Yoga Mat.  If you'd like to order a Pilates Mat through me please call or email by April 1st to ensure that it is here before class begins otherwise plan on it getting here late.  The other option is to Rent a Mat from me if you would rather not purchase one or while you wait for yours to arrive.
